Galaxy S4 getting Gear support in October; December date with S3 and Note 2

There were many wagging tongues when Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear and said it will work only with the Note 3. However, it did mention that the Galaxy S4, S3 and Note 2 would be getting the necessary software updates to support the Gear. Now, Korea Times reports that the Galaxy S4 may get support for Gear in October.Samsung VP Lee Young-hee reportedly said that all functions of the Gear will be connected to the Galaxy S4 smartphone by next month and the connection will be expanded to Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy S3 by the end of December.

This means by the end of the year, the top lineup of Galaxy devices will get support for its newest accessory. Earlier this month, Samsung launched the Galaxy Gear in India along with the Note 3. The smartwatch features a 1.9 megapixel shooter on the wristband and Samsung has said that a dedicated collection of apps will also be coming soon after launch. Gear displays notifications and also lets users respond to calls thanks to an in-built receiver and mic. It can also be used to control the music on the paired device. The Gear also works like a pedometer to track physical activity, which no doubt will feed data to Samsung's S-Health app.
