This week we took a good, hard look at the Seagate 2TB SSHD, the Jabra Solemate Mini and the much-awaited iPhone 5c. Here’s a quick word on what we felt about these products:
Seagate 2TB SSHD (ST2000DX001) (8/10)The Seagate 2TB SSHD is priced at Rs 9,600, which offers an impressive cost-per-GB of Rs 5.15. You even get a mix of both capacity and speed and is ideal for those who want the best of both worlds. If you are on a tight budget and cannot afford an SSD + HDD combination, Seagate’s 2TB SSHD is an ideal solution. You can go for the lower specced 1TB variant as well if you still want to save more money.
Seagate Desktop SSHD is a 2TB drive with an 8 GB NAND flash component
If you use a lot of heavy applications and feel that the 8GB cache memory is little, then the other alternative is to go for a regular Seagate 2TB drive which comes for around Rs 6,200 and pair it with a dedicated cache drive such as the 32GB SanDisk ReadyCache SSD which retails for around Rs 2,500. While the latter may seem like a cheaper alternative (and it is to some extent), Seagate's offering already comes with everything pre-configured and works out-of-the-box, saving you the hassle of setting up an extra drive.Jabra Solemate Mini (8/10)The device is priced at Rs 4,999 which makes it a good buy and perfect gift for this holiday season. It’s lightweight, rugged, has very good sound quality, NFC support and decent battery life. This is easily one of the most feature-packed Bluetooth speakers in this price range that’s backed up by good audio quality. The one thing that could have made it even better is the ability to pair multiple devices at the same time. We also felt the microphone could have been more sensitive for voice calls. But apart from this, we recommend the Solemate Mini if you’re looking for a good, NFC-capable, Bluetooth speaker.

Apple iPhone 5C (16GB) (6.5/10)Since the 5c is nothing more than a plastic iPhone 5 and a slightly bigger battery, it makes for a good deal. We recommend this over the 32GB as that’s absurdly priced and in that range you’re better off with the 5s instead. In fact, if you have an existing iPhone 4, you could avail a neat little discount for the 5c, which is Apple’s way of boosting its sales.
The new colours goes well with iOS 7
The price would have still been somewhat acceptable had Apple used the faster A6X chip in the 5c, but they didn’t. If you’re even considering an iPhone in the first place, chance are you’re well off, in which case it makes sense to fork out a little more and buy the more superior iPhone 5s. And that’s exactly what majority of buyers are doing which explains the poor sales of the 5c. Around Rs 40,000, you have much better options from the Android camp like the Samsung Galaxy S4, Sony Xperia Z1 and the LG G2. Overall, the iPhone 5c is a compelling buy if you opt for Apple’s buyback scheme but other than that, it’s simply too expensive for what is essentially a one-year-old phone.
