The Nokia Camera beta app is now available for all Lumia Windows Phone 8 devices. The company’s Conversations blog reveals that through a Nokia Beta Labs trial, the company has launched the Nokia Camera beta app for all Lumia smartphones running Windows Phone 8, not just the ones with the PureView label. The Camera app was earlier exclusive to Nokia’s PureView lineup such as the Lumia 920, 925 and the Lumia 1020 only. The latest in the line of PureView phones is the Lumia 1520, which was launched in India yesterday. Essentially, the Nokia Camera app combines the functionality of the Pro Camera and the Smart Camera apps. It should now work with the Lumia 520, Lumia 525, Lumia 625, Lumia 720, Lumia 820, among others. It is currently available in beta and users can start using it by signing in for the app with their Nokia account. Initially you may not notice any difference, but Nokia will slowly start adding features on an experimental basis, before fixing any bugs.

The blog states, “Initially, it will look and act the same as the existing Nokia Camera app. The first phase of the beta is to make sure it works to the same high standards across the product range. But over time, experimental new features will be added, refined, and–once they’re completely ready–deployed to the stable, non-Beta Camera app through the normal Store update process.” With the beta trial, users will get frequent updates in the form of latest features and improvements. However, there could be bugs. The trial is aimed at collecting feedback on overall usability on all Lumia phones and to verify the latest fixes and improvements. Hopefully the new app will reduce the imaging gap between the lower-end Lumia phones and those with the PureView tag.
