BlackBerry has revealed that its BlackBerry Messenger (BBM) communications platform, which recently launched on iOS and Android, will be bundled as a pre-installed app on selected future LG smartphones.
The Canadian smartphone manufacturer formerly known as Research in Motion (RIM) told Reuters today that an agreement had been sealed with LG to ship BBM out-of-the-box with future devices.
According to Reuters, "the G Pro Lite, an Android-based smartphone, will be the first LG device to offer BBM out-of-the-box."
The deal with LG has been sealed some two months after BlackBerry suffered a series of technical setbacks when rolling out cross-platform versions of BBM for Android and iOS.
After what BlackBerry described as the "amazing" launch of BBM on Android and iPhone devices, with more than 10 million downloads in the first 24 hours, the company reported it ended its first week with more than 80 million monthly active users, including over 20 million new users on Android and iPhone.
