Facebook has rolled out a ‘Donate Now’ button to make it easier for users to contribute to their favourite charities through the social network. The feature, rolling out to members Monday, lets people click a Donate Now button on a participating non-profit's post that might show up in their News Feed. The donate button will also be seen on the Facebook page of the charities and non-profit organisations participating with the social network.

The biggest catch here is that Facebook will store sensitive credit card information and link it with the user’s profile. This means if you have already donated to some charity, the second time will be an even easier two-step process, with the money automatically being charged to the card. Needless to say, this throws up a whole lot of issues, especially when accessing Facebook through public computers. Nineteen non-profit organisations have been roped in as launch partners including DonorsChoose, Oxfam, World Wildlife Fund, UNICEF, Red Cross, and Kiva. You can check out the full list here. Facebook is reportedly not charging any fee to process credit card donations and is instead paying that fee itself, thus making sure 100 percent of your donation is reaching the organisation you choose. "In November 2013, in the wake of Typhoon Haiyan, we partnered with the International Federation of Red Cross to let people donate directly to the Red Cross' relief efforts in the Philippines," Facebook said in a press release. "After seeing the generosity of people around the world toward this effort, we've been inspired to help everyone donate, at any time, to the organizations they care about most."
