Apple iPhone 5s, 5c top Japanese sales chart

It’s been just two months since Apple launched its newest iPhone 5s and 5c, and the devices have emerged to be extremely popular in Japan. News has it that Apple sold three of every four smartphones in Japan last month. According to market researchers, this started after the country’s largest carrier NTT Docomo started selling the iPhone. In fact, Apple’s iPhones reportedly amount to 61 percent of the NTT Docomo smartphones sold last month. Apple contributed to 76 percent of Japanese smartphone sales last month, revealed market researcher Kantar Worldpanel ComTech. iPhones are now sold by three major carriers in Japan. NTT Docomo, the nation’s largest carrier, ended its holdout against Apple’s devices as it is striving to regain market share from smaller rivals. Earlier, it had resisted offering Apple devices to focus on handsets from Sony and Samsung Electronics and protect its online store from competition from iTunes.

Apple launched two new iPhone models this year – iPhone 5s and the cheaper iPhone 5c. The iPhone 5s comes with an all new A7 chip, which makes it is the world’s first smartphone to come with 64-bit desktop-class architecture. Another interesting feature is the Touch ID fingerprint sensor which lets users unlock their iPhones with just a touch of the home button. The 5c is powered by an A6 chip and designed around a single, hard-coated polycarbonate body with a metal interior frame doubling up as the antenna.Apple launched the new iPhones in India last month, during the festival season. The 16GB, 32GB and 64GB variants of the iPhone 5s are priced at Rs 53,500, Rs 62,500 and Rs 71,500 respectively. The 16GB and 32GB iPhone 5c is priced at Rs 41,900 and Rs 53,500 respectively.
