In a weird twist of events, Warner Bros is apparently negotiating a movie deal with Imangi Studios for a movie adaptation of the popular endless running mobile game Temple Run. According to Hollywood Reporter, David Heyman, Producer for movies like the Harry Potter franchise and Gravity, has been drafted to work on the movie. It’s no secret that movie adaptations of games aren’t very good, and this one doesn’t seem to be any different. The story of the movie will revolve around an explorer who is chased by demonic forces after stealing a presumably sacred idol from a temple. How the movie will add anything to the existing plot is yet to be seen.
Scraping the bottom of the barrel, Warner Bros?
We’re guessing that Warner Bros just wants the game’s name to be associated with the movie, and its plot will be something akin to Indiana Jones. It might even feature some running to appease the fans, like the beginning of Indiana Jones: Raiders of the Lost Ark where the titular hero is running down a narrow passageway to escape from a boulder. To call the Temple Run franchise a success would be an understatement. So far, aside from the two main games in the series, there have been a number of spinoffs with various movie IPs, such as Temple Run Brave and Temple Run Oz. The first game in the series was released on iPhone in 2011 and was instantly successful. It was eventually ported to Android and Windows Phone as well. The sequel, aptly named Temple Run 2, is also available on all three mobile operating systems.
