Ever wished your laptop could last longer than the average eight to ten hour working day? Toshiba has now announced a new laptop that may just be able to do much more than that. The company’s newest Kirabook, titled the dynabook KIRA V634/27K, will be able to give users a humongous 22 hours of battery life. Even though manufacturer-rated battery estimates tend to be overstated, the number is still big enough to demand our attention. So how exactly does Toshiba achieve this? Firstly, under the hood, There's Intel’s latest Core i5 processor aka Haswell, which should help conserve battery given the low power consumption feature. Apart from the latest processor, the company claims that its native BIOS system also has a significant part to play in conserving battery life by controlling the hardware inside. The Ultrabook also comes with a low-power consumption LCD backlight source.
22-hour battery life. You say whaa??
Other features include a 13.3-inch high-definition (HD) wide LCD panel, a resolution of 1366x768 pixels and a relatively light weight of 1.12 kg. The weight, according to a report by Nikkei, is achieved by reducing the sizes of printed circuit boards (PCBs), changing the locations of antennas and “utilising various forming techniques.” For the body, Toshiba has made use of a magnesium alloy which lends strength to the frame. While the V634/27K forgoes touch compatibility to add to the battery savings, Toshiba has also introduced a higher-end version of the laptop with a touch-screen and a higher resolution of 2560x1440 pixels. This model is touted to have a nevertheless-great 14-hour battery life. Along with these models, Toshiba also plans to unveil another laptop, called the Kira V834/28H, which will come with a touch-panel WQHD display sporting a resolution of 2560x1440 pixels and will weigh in at a slightly heavier 1.35kg. The higher specifications of the laptop also result in a reduced battery life span of 14 hours. All things considered, that is still pretty impressive. More details about this model have still not been revealed. All models come with 4K-compatible HDMI output ports and can output high-resolution images and movies to a 4K TV.
Toshiba plans to launch all three new models on November 22, although the new laptops will only be launched in Japan for now, according to PC World. And the long battery life of the new series commands a hefty price tag as well. The V634/27K, according to akihabaranews, comes with a price tag of ¥150,000 (Rs 93,510 approx). The higher-end model with a WQHD display will set users back ¥160,000 (Rs 99,750 approx). The V834/29H will cost a princely sum of ¥170,000 (Rs 1,05,980 approx).
