Thanksgiving 2013 was our busiest day, says Instagram

Thanksgiving 2013 and the first day of the Hanukkah fell on the same day for the first time since 1888. And if your Instagram feed was littered with filtered pictures of roast turkeys, latkes and other Thanksgiving and Hanukkah staples, you weren't alone. The double holiday brought in a very busy, rather the 'busiest' day, for the Instagram team. The world's favourite picture-sharing app was flooded with photos and videos of celebrations. Despite this, the company hasn’t shared any numbers to show exactly how busy their servers were. So we just have to take their word for it as of now.

This is what the company said in a blog post, “We saw record usage as Instagrammers shared a heaping help of holiday cheer. Your Thanksgiving and Hanukkah-related photos and videos helped make yesterday our busiest so far—and for that we give thanks to you.” It should be noted that last year's Thanksgiving was earlier Instagram's busiest day, with no numbers released then either. About time, Instagram gives us pedants some hard facts about the number of shares. Last week, Instagram made its much-awaited debut on the Windows Phone platform earlier this month. However, the app came sans video capture, a feature that had only been added to the service this year to compete with Twitter’s Vine. No doubt having an extra few million new Windows Phone users helped Instagram break last year's record. Check out our review of Instagram for Windows Phone.
