Back in May, Samsung had launched a new budget Galaxy device with modest specifications and a smaller-than-usual 4.3-inch display, titled the Galaxy Core. The device later appeared online for pre-order with a price tag of Rs 15,350. While there has not been much news of the handset since, it now looks like company has already launched its successor in Taiwan, titled the Galaxy Core Plus for NT$7,990 (Rs 17,000 approx). Currently, there is no word on an Indian release date or price for the Galaxy Core Plus.
The new device measures 129.7x65.9x9.4mm and weighs in at 134 grams. A quick look at the specifications left us disappointed as the new model does not come with any improvements over its predecessor. The Galaxy Core Plus comes with a 4.3-inch TFT display sporting a resolution of 480x800 pixels, the same as what was seen in the Galaxy Core. Under the hood, the handset comes with a 1.2GHz dual-core processor coupled with 768MB of RAM. The Galaxy Core, on the other hand, came with 1GB of RAM. On the photography-front, the new smartphone comes with a 5-megapixel rear autofocus camera with LED flash as well as a VGA front shooter, again the same as the previous model.
Note really a successor
The handset packs in 4GB of internal memory, out of which only 1.93GB will be available, as well as a microSD card. The Galaxy Core, in comparison, comes with 8GB of internal memory. In terms of connectivity, the device comes with the usual suspects like Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and GPS connectivity options. Rounding up the package is an 1,800mAh battery. The company has also integrated a few smart features taken from the higher-end Galaxy smartphones. These include Smart Stay, Smart Alert, Motion UI and the company’s native voice assistant, S Voice. Here’s a quick look at the specifications of the Galaxy Core Plus:
- 4.3-inch TFT display, 480x800 pixel resolution
- Wi-Fi b/g/n, Wi-Fi Direct
- Bluetooth 3.0, GPS, NFC
- 5-megapixel rear camera, LED flash, Autofocus; VGA front camera
