Samsung Galaxy Gear flops; less than 50,000 units sold so far

Samsung had launched the Galaxy Gear, the company's first smartwatch, amidst much fanfare in September. Now, a report from BusinessKorea claims that the Galaxy Gear has turned out to be a flop of epic proportions as the company has sold less than 50,000 units so far.The report said that Samsung is moving a mere 800 to 900 units per day worldwide currently. If the number is to be believed then the sales don’t seem good at all, especially considering reports that claim the Gear is experiencing 30 percent return rate in Best Buy locations. Despite the big advertisement campaigns, looks like the device hasn’t struck a chord with the audiences.

The report also highlights that Samsung’s curved smartphone Galaxy Round, that was released on November 10, shows daily sales under 100 units. The cumulative monthly sales fall under 10,000 units. However, it’s too early to talk about the Round, especially since Samsung had disclosed that the Round will be in limited production and may not make its way outside Korea. Samsung Galaxy Gear is available in India for Rs 22,990. It works with the Galaxy Note 3, S4, S3, Note 2 and some other Samsung devices as well. The Gear is primarily used by either using the swipe-based interface or Samsung’s S Voice feature. It is equipped with a 1.9 megapixel shooter, displays notifications, music controls and also works as a pedometer.
