Nikon announces Df, a retro-styled full-frame shooter

After teasing us with its Pure Photography advertisments, Nikon has finally announced its retro-styled full-frame camera - the Nikon Df - which pays homage to Nikon's F-series film cameras. The f in Df stands for Fusion.

The Nikon Df houses a 16.2MP FX-format CMOS sensor that was seen in the flagship D4 and has the EXPEED 3 image processor. The ISO range goes upto 12,800 and is expandable to 204,800. It features a 39-point AF system with nine of them being cross-type. Users can also choose from a variety of AF area modes to match their shooting style: 9-point, 21-point, 39-point, 39-point with 3D Tracking and Auto Area AF. At just 710 grams, it is the lightest Nikon full-frame DSLR's. It comes with weather sealing and has a magnesium-alloy body.

The first thing that will strike you about the camera is its classic design aesthetic. The top edge of the camera is choc-a-bloc with dials for exposure, ISO and shutter speed alongwith a small mode dial. It comes in black and silver colours. There is an optical viewfinder with 100 per cent field of vision. It can shoot 5.5 frames per second. There is no video mode in this camera unfortunately. The Nikon Df is compatible with not only current AF, AF-S, DX and AF-D lenses, but Ai and non-Ai Nikkor glass going all the way back to 1959. Nikon has also introduced a special edition 50mm f/1.8 lens for the Df camera.
