It's been a busy week for Netflix. Having only just launched on Virgin Media's TiVo boxes, the on-demand TV and movie service has today announced a new, unified interface for its smart TV, PS3, Xbox 360 and Roku box apps.

Netflix new TV experience

The new look, which has been specifically designed for bigger screens, now includes oversized images for each title that rotate to give a particular show or film greater context. The synopsis and personalised details have been shortened, showing you whether any friends have watched a particular film, whether they have wont any awards and how they relate to your viewing history.

Search has been improved with greater visual feedback. Results now begin to appear after typing a single letter, and are filtered as you type more. Once you make a selection, playback transitions have sped up so there's less lag between pressing play and your video starting up.

Finally, the kids section now matches the main menu in terms of design, and is now available on more devices including smart TVs, Blu-ray players and the Roku streaming media player.

The update has begun to roll out globally to every supported device, but could take several weeks until it shows up on your particular smart TV or set-top box. It's also due to arrive on the PS4 when it launches later this month.
