iOS devs earn 5x more revenue per download than Android

Several reports earlier this year have pointed that though Google Play Store revenue has surged, Apple App Store is still way ahead though in terms of pure revenue earned. A new report compiled by Business Insider reveals that iOS brings developers five times more revenue per download than Android. The report suggests that for every $1 revenue earned by iOS developers, an Android counterpart earns just $0.19. However, in case of up-front and in-app purchases, the different of revenue reduces. An Android user brings in $0.43 for every $1.00 on iOS. The difference between advertising revenue is even smaller with $0.77 for every $1 on iOS.

Take a look at the chart below that shows the difference between revenue earned by Android developers against $1 earned by Apple developer.

Revenue on Android for every $1 on iOS

Though Android has a wider user base, iOS still leads in terms of monetisation. Earlier ABI Research revealed that Play Store growth could double this year and reach a massive amount of $6.8 billion. Despite this, the report said that iOS App Store will still rule the roost as far as generating revenue is concerned. The report pointed out that $6.8 billion is mere 60 percent of Apple’s revenue from apps.

In terms of the number of app downloads alone, Play Store has the upper hand over the App Store, thanks largely to the burgeoning user base the Google OS enjoys. Around 80 percent of all smartphones in the world run Android, so naturally Play Store has a lot more users. Considering the fact that China does not have official Play Store support, the app revenue numbers could change if at all Google decides to launch in China.
