Google has finally made it possible to embed its new Maps offering now. The Maps redesign took place back in May, but this feature wasn't launched at the time. But as they say, it's better late than never, so you can embed them onto your website and blogs from this week. In a blog post announcing the arrival of the feature, Ken Hoetmer, Product Manager, Google Maps API, wrote on the Google Developers blog that you will simply be able to grab the HTML code and paste it onto your site. First off, you will obviously need to make sure you’ve opted in to use the revamped version of Google Maps/ Then head on to the website and click on the gear icon on the lower right-hand side of the page. You can simply click on “embed map” and choose the size of your embed –small, medium, large or custom sizes – and paste the code. These maps will be customised for each individual user. You can sign in to these maps to see relevant content like saved places from Google Maps. This can be seen with your Google+ display popping up on the upper right of the screen. You can also save a location from an embedded map for viewing it on Google Maps for desktop or mobile later. Sadly, you will only be able to see top-down satellite view and regular map views on these embeds and not the advanced 3D view Google unveiled earlier this year. These maps are free of usage limits, thankfully, so you need not worry about quotas.Google has also announced that a new ad experience is coming to Google Maps that it thinks users of the embed map will find “exciting”. Hoetmer wrote, “This new on-map design will allow relevant local businesses to connect with your users, similar to the ads you currently see in the new Google Maps and Google Maps for Mobile.” As part of this release, Google has also updated the Google Maps/Earth APIs Terms of Service in order to enable it to launch new APIs with advertising.
