Amazon started selling the Kindle Paperwhite in India for Rs 10,999 (Wi-Fi) and Rs 13,999 (3G) from June this year. That price tag has now been slashed, both for the 3G and Wi-Fi models of the popular e-reading device, by Rs 1,000. Amazon.in is currently selling the Wi-Fi version of the Kindle Paperwhite for Rs 9,999 and 3G model for Rs 12,999.
The company has also slashed the prices of the older 6-inch Kindle by Rs 1000, which is now selling for Rs 4,999. Just two months back in September, the company had dropped the price of its 7-inch Kindle Fire HD by Rs 4,000. The Fire HD is now priced at Rs 11,999. While most of the Amazon Kindle devices have now received a price drop, no such discount has been announced for the Kindle Fire HD 8.9.
The Amazon Kindle Paperwhite e-reader, for those looking for details, comes with a black-and-white screen. It promises to offer 25 percent more contrast than previous models. CEO Jeff Bezos had earlier said that tablets such as the iPad and the Fire don't work as well in bright light because they are lit from the back; the light on the Paperwhite is directed down at the display. The Paperwhite promises eight weeks of battery life, even with the light on. You can carry up to 1,100 books, and also choose books from the company’s vast marketplace. Amazon has included six font styles and also comes with a new 'Time to Read' feature that uses your reading speed to tell you the time you'll take to finish your chapter. The price slash comes on the heels of recent reports that Amazon is planning to refresh its Paperwhite lineup by early January. A prototype of the next-gen Kindle Paperwhite which is more in line with Amazon’s Kindle HDX tablets line had surfaced. The newer Kindle Paperwhite will reportedly come with a pixel density of 330ppi, and there are also reports claiming that there will be a few hardware improvements baked in as well.
