Samsung reportedly rolling out new camera module, improved anti-shake function

Samsung has now developed a new 13-megapixel camera module with an optical anti-shake function for smartphones and mobile phones, according to a foreign press report. While many smartphone manufacturers have already jumped on to the camera-centric smartphone bandwagon, users still need a steady hand while shooting to avoid blurry pictures. The new camera feature, according to what the company has to say, is going to change that. The module is said to be able to correct an angular error of up to 1.5 degrees. Digital cameras currently offer anti-shake functions that fix errors up to 0.7 degrees. This means that the new module, if it lives up to the claims, will definitely go a long way in helping users get steady and clear pictures while using their smartphones.

Apart from image stabilisation, the new invention is said to work well in places with low illumination. The new module can allegedly produce images that are eight times higher than what Samsung’s current camera module can give. Furthermore, the new module has low power consumption, according to the company, and measures 10.5x 10.5x5.9mm. This matches Samsung’s current camera modules offered on smartphones. The low power consumption claim will definitely help to increase the battery lifespan, a definite bonus for prolific picture takers. Samsung has already worked out a prototype of the new camera module and is currently in talks with “leading smartphone makers” for integrating the technology in their devices. That is good news as you will not have to subscribe to just Samsung's Galaxy series to get your hands on the new camera module. Patent Bolts has speculated that the new camera module might first be seen on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S5, although there is no confirmation from the company to validate this. Samsung, according to the source, has said that it plans to begin volume production in the first half of 2014.
