Micromax to launch 4G-enabled devices by year end

Indian smartphone manufacturer Micromax doesn’t look like it's planning to slow down any time soon. The company recently roped in Hollywood superstar Hugh Jackman as its brand ambassador and launched a new flagship device. If that wasn’t enough, it now looks like the company is planning to come up with an LTE-enabled handset and make its first move into the Windows Phone territory, according to a report by the Economic Times. In an interview with the publication, Micromax Co-Founder Rahul Sharma said that the company will be rolling out its first Windows Phone-running handset to the market by the middle of next year. This is definitely a bold move, given that the platform is currently dominated by Finnish smartphone manufacturer Nokia.

Sharma, while talking about LTE-ready products, said that the company would start offering 4G-capapble devices by December. In the interview, the Micromax head honcho said, “We want to establish ourselves on LTE and offer products that are LTE ready by December, so that consumers would not need to change their handsets whenever voice over LTE becomes available, be it six months or eight months later.” New devices are not the only direction of growth that the company is looking at. Recent reports indicated that the company has also expanded to the Russian market and is now eying Europe as well.Micromax is not the only Indian smartphone manufacturer who is looking at 4G-enabled devices. Earlier reports came with leaked press renders and details of what could be a new smartphone from Xolo, titled LT900, which comes with LTE support. The increasing number of 4G-enabled devices is interesting, given that Airtel is currently the only telecom provider to offer 4G services in select cities. Reliance is also looking to launch 4G services under the Jio brand.
