Indian 'Swiss Knife for your smartphone' seeks crowdfunding on indiegogo

Worried about the safety of your home? Looking for your ever-elusive phone? Need to keep an eye on your dog? The solution to all these needs may now be coming our way, courtesy a new project that is currently looking for crowdfunding on indiegogo. A Bangalore-based startup has now come up with a Bluetooth-enabled device called Gecko that can work with your smartphone to perform a number of these functions. The tiny device makes use of low-energy Bluetooth technology to function like a wireless remote that lets the user control his or her phone by shaking or turning it. Users can set certain gestures to perform different functions like making an emergency call or skipping to the next track on your device playlist. Gecko can also be synced with the smartphone’s camera or with a DSLR to even take photographs remotely. And that is just the tip of the iceberg in terms of functionality. The device can function like a motion detector that will send alerts to a synced device when it moves. A concerned user can attach the gadget to their main door as a security feature to get alerts whenever the door opens. Gecko can even be strapped on to your dog’s collar to let you know when your pet has decided to leave you because of your obvious gadget obession. The device can also be strapped on to a family member’s pillbox and it will let you know if the box was not touched at a scheduled time. The company has shared a video that oulines all the functions of the device:

Gecko even comes with a track-and-find feature that will let you hunt down your missing smartphone, or any other item that it may be attached too. You can even pair a number of these devices to one smartphone. The basic application for this device is currently working on iOS devices as well as the Samsung Galaxy S4. The tiny device will work on all iOS and Android 4.3 devices that support Bluetooth 4.0. It will also work on Samsung devices that support Android 4.2 with Bluetooth 4.0 support. The team has set a funding goal of $50,000 on indiegogo and is just short of $5000 with 17 days to go. Early backers of the project can pick up the device for $20 (Rs 1230 approx) while the actual price for the complete package stands at $25 (Rs 1550 approx). Other wearable devices that can be synced to your smartphone like the Pebble smartwatch will set you back $150 (Rs 9240 approx) while the recently launched Samsung Galaxy Gear comes with a Rs 22,990 price tag. The comparitive price of Gecko, keeping in mind all the features packed in, is damn good, and we cant wait to get our hands on this electronic Macgyver.
