Rockstar has released another patch for Grand Theft Auto 5, designed to resolve outstanding issues with the GTA Online multiplayer service - including entire characters going missing, along with all progress made by the player.
Launched as a free add-on to the record-breaking GTA 5, GTA Online has been a source of considerable trouble for the company. A plan to add microtransactions to the game, allowing players to trade real-world money for in-game GTA$, was delayed as a result of bugs that saw players unable to connect to servers and losing their cars, cash and even characters.
A new update for the game, live now for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, promises to resolve these issues. The problem of character deletion has been fixed, with players' missing saves being restored, but in doing so overwriting any new character they have created in the save slot previously used by the original character. Hangs on game loading, getting stuck in garages, loss of weapons and ammunition, problems with races, network errors, and game balancing fixes have also been addressed.
One major bug in the service still remains, however: a flaw which results in players losing a purchased vehicle if the connection to Rockstar's cloud servers was lost during saving remains, with the company promising a fix in due course.
