Flickr individual page redesigned to make images 25 percent larger

Yahoo! is going on a bit of a redesigning spree. This time, Marissa Mayer and co. seem to have turned their attention to Flickr. After having given Flickr a massive makeover back in May, Yahoo! is making photos on individual pages look bigger and more beautifully placed. In a blog post announcing bigger photos, Flickr said that this was a preview experience and will be fitted with new features in the coming weeks. The most important bit of this new Photo Experience is that the photos are a lot bigger than before. It gives the “largest possible” image while not deprecating the story around the photo.

Each image is now about 25 percent bigger than the old photo page. “You’ll see more pixels, get a cleaner view without any elements on the top or the bottom of the screen, so that photos can really be the center point,” says Flickr. Despite the fact the photos will look a lot bigger on Flickr now, the company has made sure that the story – caption and comments – is not sidelined. You will now see a new sidebar alongside the image that while not requiring you to scroll down anymore will give you all the information you need about the pictures. Flickr says that it has also started adding recommendations to the sidebar that will help you find similar photographs. According to Flickr, the new Photo Experience is a lot faster now since it has been rebuilt from ground up. It is also working on improving the performance further. The next couple of weeks will see Flickr add more features to the photo experience preview. If you want to be an part of this early preview, you can hit the “Try our new Photo Experience” button on any photo page on Flickr.
