Twitter has turned into a playground for major mobile manufacturers to take not-so-veiled digs at each other. Joining the ranks of these companies is Samsung, who tweeted out a post that reinforced the fact that it cashed in on the “gold phone” craze before Apple did.Late last week, Samsung put out a tweet with an image of a gold coloured Samsung Galaxy S4 with the calendar app open and the dates 8th and 10th marked on it. The tweet also emphasised on the fact that the 8th came before the 10th.

Essentially, the Korean company wanted to remind followers as well as Apple that it sold a gold coloured Samsung Galaxy S4 a couple of days before the gold-coloured iPhone 5S was announced by Apple. While no one is keeping score over which company sold a phone first, it sure looks like Samsung is trying to steal Apple’s thunder from its event of the year. Clearly, it looks like Samsung fell short of things to one-up Apple with. The gold-coloured Samsung Galaxy S4 was released in the Middle East this month and the official Samsung Mobile Arabia handle tweeted about it on September 25. With the tagline “elegance is a touch of gold”, the company even put up images of the phone in gold and rose-gold colours on its Facebook page. It isn’t clear if the phone will be released internationally just yet.

On the other hand, rumours of a gold-coloured iPhone had been doing the rounds for month. Earlier in September Apple officially announced the gold – or champagne – coloured iPhone 5S that turned out to be a runaway hit after being the butt of many jokes. It looks like the scales have tilted in Apple’s favour as Twitter users have unanimously showed Samsung the thumbs down for a gimmicky tweet of this sort. Take a look at some of these:
@SamsungMobileME Editorial strikes despicable tone. Smacks of confrontation veiled in forced humor. Pathetic, utterly childish. #Swansung.

@SamsungMobileME Big deal. You haven't stopped stealing from Apple since June of 2007. No doubt you hijacked this idea as we'll...
