LG Google Nexus 5 may debut on October 14

Rumours about the much-anticipated LG Google Nexus 5 have been doing the rounds for some time now. A new leak by tech site Ausdroid is now hinting at the smartphone possibly making a debut on October 14. The most exciting part about the new smartphone is that it is expected to come packing the new Android 4.4 KitKat mobile operating system.

Google has a bad track record of keeping its future devices under wraps. The exorbitant number of leaks surrounding its earlier release, the Nexus 7 ensured that the general populace had a complete list of the specifications before the tablet was officially announced.

The new Nexus device seems to be heading in the same direction. The smartphone was first seen in a video at the official announcement of Android 4.4 KitKat, although Google soon took said video down. Another set of leaks based on a set of FCC filings have also helped paint a more or less complete picture about what the device will most likely look like.

Is this the Nexus 5?

The LG Google Nexus 5 could be announced on October 14

The source of the latest leak, apart from the possible announcement date, has also come with a list of the features that Android 4.4 KitKat may bring to the table. The source has also hinted at the device possibly seeing a commercial launch in November. Google's track record for launch schedules definitely points to the possibility of an October announcement and a November release. However, the source has cautioned users to take this information “with a large grain of salt.”

In terms of OS features, KitKat will reportedly be supported on older phones as well, bring fragmentation changes i.e. screen resizing, Miracast updates, new APIs regarding animations, a new Gallery visualisation and new notification widgets. The source also verifies that the Nexus device seen in the now removed KitKat video was in fact the Nexus 5, but does not show any other evidence to support this claim.

With the amount of news being generated, it definitely looks like a Nexus 5 announcement is in the pipeline. It should be noted, though, that neither Google or LG have officially confirmed that a new Nexus smartphone is on the drawing board which makes it advisable to wait for some more information to pop up.
