Apple is rumoured to be unveiling the iPad 5 and iPad Mini 2 alongside faster and lower-power iMac desktops at an event scheduled for the 15th of October.
Apple has only recently refreshed its mobile line-up with the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S, but its desktop and tablet ranges haven't seen a refresh for some time. Its all-in-one iMac line is still based on Intel's last-generation Ivy Bridge processor, which lacks the power and performance improvements of the Haswell chips running in the company's laptops.
The iPad range, too, missed a rumoured launch at the company's press event last week, although this may be due to component shortages - in particular for the high-resolution retina display tipped for the iPad Mini 2.
Now, French-language site Mac Generation claims to have word that Apple is planning an event in October that will launch both new iMacs and the new iPad models, with dwindling stock of the former being used as evidence that a refresh is definitely on the way.
Little is known about the iMac refresh, but it would seem certain that Apple would make the move to Intel's Haswell chips, which will mean a welcome performance boost as well as a reduction in power draw that could allow the company to make the already-slim device even thinner. The two new iPads, meanwhile, will likely bring improvements to the display, an iPhone 5S-like fingerprint reader and, rumours have suggested, a powerful A7X 64-bit processor - again, like the A7 part found in the iPhone 5S.
Apple, as is usual, has refused to comment on the rumours, but with October just around the corner those in the market for a new Apple desktop or tablet are well advised to wait a month to see what the alleged launch event brings.
