Hi, To root or not, you maybe thinking now. There are 60% users using android who have rooted their android devices. Android runs on Linux OS (Operating System). So it can't do some operations which are only done when you have rooted your android. Rooting does not mean bricking your android devices. People do wrong things after rooting which results in their dead android devices. If you do not do anything wrong, rooting is some much safe.
What is Rooting
Rooting means gaining superuser permission, for example, you have an android device but you are not the real admin of android device, it is OS which commands it. If you want to be admin of android device, you need to root android device. Then Android will run on your saying, what you will say to it, it will obey (say means commanding). By doing rooting you can do anything. In Iphone gaining SuperUser is called jailbreaking whereas in android it is called rooting. After rooting, there are hundreds of tweaks waiting for you to apply on your android. There are many reasons and cons to root but there are many pros too like after rooting your device's warranty is avoid which means if vendor (the company who made your android device) found that you have rooted your device they will charge you if you got for any repairs on device but do not worry you can un-root any time.
~i am not responsible if you bricked your ANY android device using this guide and all its content and/or if you say 'you told to root so i rooted, now you are responsible', i will not give you any money or any other device. I can help you to unbrick but still don't point finger at me~
Why To Root-
After rooting you can use/install these features in your rooted android device.
Custom Rom
If you have an android device, you should root it because there are some/many custom rom(s) available for your android device. Custom Rom is also called Custom Firmware. This means providing your android new features. Developers/General People make ROMs for your device. Most roms come with many features that are not available in your stock rom (stock firmware). Examples of some beautiful custom roms available for android devices-
1 Suvi v5.1 Iris for Micromax A110 Canvas 2
2 S.E.M.I v4 for Micromax A110 Canvas 2
3 JellyBlast for Samsung Galaxy Y
There are many custom rom(s) which i am not showing because i am just showing you some examples of how are custom roms.
Android OS update
Hey, your android is on which Operating System? Obviously on Android but which version? Are you still on GingerBread? If yes then you May update your android device to Ice Cream Sandwitch (4.0), JellyBean (4.1), JellyBean (4.2). Popular vendor's Devices mostly comes with updates like ICS, JB etc, If you are having devices like Micromax, Karbonn or any other brand which is not popular, so the chances for updating your android is very less, but if you have devices like Samsung, HTC, LG etc then you have very much chances for an android OS update. So open XDA if you have samsung, lg, htc etc and See your device forms or threads (Micromax, Karbonn's threads are also located there so you have to google it.)
Or you can go androidforums and search for your forum of micromax, karbonn, samsung, lg, HTC etc and explore Android Updates.
Disabling/Deleting Blotwares
There are many applications which are located in system/app which you cannot delete and those applications cover too much place. You may never use those application at any time. So delete it, yeah! after rooting you can delete those applications. Especially if your have devices like Micromax, Karbonn they provide many applications which we never use. If your device have JellyBean, your can disable it but users using Eclair, Froyo, GingerBread, Honey Comb and Ice Cream Sandwitch cannot do this so better to root and delete those applications which we do not need. After rooting you can delete any application but be careful to delete only applications which you do not need. Do not delete applications like phone.apk, systemUI.apk, framework-res.apk or any other file which you do not know.
Overclocking, Increasing CPU/GPU speed, Battery life increase
are you feeling that your android device is lagging? if yes then rooting can also solve this problem. Again if you have device of popular vendor, developers may made custom kernel which can increase your android device speed. You can also use very popular technique called swapping, to know how to use swapping technique, click here. Swapping will increase your android's internal RAM by using your SDcard some space as RAM. You can use many applications like Set CPU, antutu cpu manager which will help you to increase your android Speed if you have installed custom kernel. There are many tweaks like Seeder and many engines like Geeky Engine which you can install to boost your android device. So if your android device is slow, flawing etc you should root it.
More Customization
Android's Stock OS is boring with UI which is not so cool. Ice Cream Sandwitch and JellyBean have nice UI but Eclair, Froyo, GingerBread do not have very cool UI, they are like old type devices. You can customize many things like making your settings application like Ice Cream Sandwitch or JellyBean. You can edit your notification bar too like you can add 'Slide to Remove Notification' tweak, you can edit the location of your android device's date displaying place in notification bar.
You can also enable 'OLD TV like screen off in your android device' (GingerBread and above) by using my this guide- how to enable CRT Animation on Android. There are hundreds of customization waiting for you to applying on your android device.
Better HD gaming
your android games lag? i hate playing games which are always flawing do you? if yes then you should definitely root your android device. There is an application called chainfire 3d which increases your GPU by disabling some features which increase the game play. You can increase your HD gaming by increase ram by using this guide and this guide. There are many applications which increase your gaming available in playstore like Game Booster 2, Game Booster - Speed Optimizer etc. If you are gamer of addictive gamer, you should root it, then you can install and play any HD games like Asphalt 7, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Need For Speed: Most wanted, if your device can handle the games. For using chainfire 3d and boosting android game play- follow this guide- click me
Better Backup
the are many applications which backup your android data without rooting your android device (they can backup only applications). But you can now backup anything for example, you can backup high score and settings of any particular application, delete that application and you can restore data so you can use that application from where you stopped, with your high score, what you done in that application etc. The application which can do this is- Titanium Backup
Nandroid Backup
After rooting your device, and installing clockworkmod recovery/TWRP recovery in it, you can do anything in device without worrying that what would be result. But, before trying these things, make sure you perform nandroid backup, it means that, it will backup your whole android OS to SDcard so if you did anything wrong and bricked your device, you can restore nandroid backup and it will make your android 'resume' from where you left your android device. Same as hibernate in windows OS. You can google your device's ClockworkMod recovery or TWRp or any other recovery.
Note: i am not saying that you overclock and install kernel which is 1.7 GHz and your device runs 600 MHz as stock, it can lead to that device can catch fire, totally dead or any other worst case scenario can happen to your device.
