Kazam, the startup mobile manufacturer based in the UK which was created by former HTC executives earlier this year, has finally revealed its initial smartphone lineup.
The "less is more" Trooper range will be firmly aimed at the entry-level, whereas Kazam promises the Thunder range will have the "ultimate in tech performance for the increasing demands of technology fanatics".
The Trooper range consists of the X3.5, X4.0, X4.5 and X5.5, named after their respective screen sizes. The base model Trooper X3.5 has a 3.5in, 480x320 TFT screen, 1GHz dual-core processor, 512MB of RAM and a 2-megapixel rear-facing camera.
Moving up through the range, the Thunder Q4.5 includes a 4.5in, 854x480 IPS screen, 1.3GHz quad-core Mali 400MP2 processor and 1GB of RAM. It also has an 8-megapixel camera with a 2-megapixel front-facing webcam, and 1,800mAh battery.
Every Kazam smartphone will have dual SIM card slots, a removable battery and expandable memory slots. Kazam Rescue will come pre-installed, letting the support team remotely access customers' devices to help with any setup issues or problems. The screen will also be guaranteed for a year, with Kazam promising a free replacement should it get broken or damaged.
According to the firm, the KAZAM Trooper & KAZAM Thunder ranges will launch over the coming days and weeks on a regional basis to coincide with consumer availability.
Details of the second Thunder phone, the Q5.0 will be announced "soon".
KAZAM was established six months ago with the ambition to "challenge the industry status quo". The company said it is "obsessive about quality, relevant technology, and disruptive pricing", which would hopefully differentiate itself in the crowded global smartphone market.
Michael Coombes, CEO, KAZAM said, “Six months ago KAZAM was founded and to be announcing our first phones today is incredible. We are small and experienced, ensuring we are quick to adapt and react to the changing needs of our local markets. There is much more to come from our exciting brand.”
However, with a somewhat underwhelming and budget-focused lineup, anyone hoping for a Nexus 5, Galaxy S4 or HTC One rival may be disappointed.
