In a huge setback to the LGBT community in India, the Supreme Court has overturned a decision made by the Delhi High Court in 2009 to decriminalise homosexuality in the country. The SC upheld the controversial Section 377 in a decision today, and hoped that Parliament would take up the matter of decriminalising the section.Understandably, the LGBT community and supporters of equal rights are up in arms about the verdict. The community that had been largely closeted before the 2009 verdict had become vociferous on social networks in the past few years. But it was not only the LGBT community that was enraged by the verdict, as people from all corners united on virtual platforms against the verdict. From well-known queer supporters and gay rights activists to human rights organisations, have a look at what the world is saying about Section 377:
I assert that the right on my body, my sexuality is my own. It is not the laws business to tell me who to love. #thejudgementday #section377

Was so proud when India decriminalised gay sex. We've a giant leap backwards as a society today with the Supreme Court judgment. #377

Surely, we haven’t heard the last of Section 377 as more protests, tweets and posts will pour in over the next few days. With the ball now in the Parliament’s court, we’re going to see a lot more reactions on Twitter and Facebook.
