Reliance Communications culls 10 million users from subscription base

Reliance Communications has now slipped to the fourth place in terms of total mobile users, according to a report by Live Mint. The company has reportedly said that it implemented a routine clean-up of its subscriber base, resulting in more than 10 million subscribers being removed in the month of September, according to the monthly numbers revealed by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI). In an emailed statement, a spokesperson for the company said that, “Reliance Communications has deactivated the services of around 10 million unprofitable, low-end subscribers at the lowest end of the ARPU (average revenue per user) range, who had not used their phones for over two months. This is in line with the industry practice and has no impact on customer experience or (the Company’s) revenues.”The company’s mobile subscriber base in September stood at 116.26 million users. This placed it after competitor provider Idea Cellular, which boasted 127.22 million mobile users in the same period.
