New Heroes of the Storm videos show off gameplay, characters and mechanics

Blizzard has released some new videos for the upcoming Heroes of the Storm over the weekend. One of them, in true Blizzard fashion, is a CG cutscene with some of the company's trademark gorgeous cinematic graphics. The second gives us short glimpses at the gameplay. Along with these, Blizzard has released a developer diary, where the studio explains some of the features and mechanics of the game.

Interestingly, the company wants to bring the game to a wider audience than the one League of Legends or Dota 2 cater to. Because of this plan, the company is bringing some radical changes to the genre, such as the removal of the last-hit mechanic and a variety of different maps to play in.At the recent Blizzcon, Blizzard kicked off beta sign-ups for Heroes of the Storm. The sign-up process involves changing your Battle.net account's beta preferences through the official website.

Blizzard’s MOBA game has been in development from quite some time now, and the company hasn’t revealed any details other than its name and the fact that it will have characters from the Diablo, Warcraft and StarCraft mythos as playable heroes.Originally, Blizzard's MOBA was announced as a map for StarCraft 2 to show off the game's modding capabilities. However, the idea was later dropped in favour of a standalone game, especially after the success seen by Valve's Dota 2 and Riot's League of Legends.

Earlier, the game was called Blizzard All-Stars. However, the company announced the game’s new name back in October along with a video. The animation style has aimed more for the "cute" than the "badass" side of the spectrum. An orc from Warcraft comes into the scene and nails a sign on the ground which says "Blizzard Dota". StarCraft's Jim Raynor enters the scene by shooting the sign, turning its text into "Blizzard All-Stars". The Demon Hunter form Diablo 3 jumps in and kicks off a Mexican stand off between the three, when suddenly, lightning strikes, revealing the game's new name.
