Here's one of the weirdest games we've ever seen on Kickstarter. Developer 3 turn Productions has started a Kickstarter campaign to crowdfund its MMORPG, named Ever, Jane. The game is based on the life and times of renowned author Jane Austen, who you might know as the one who wrote Pride and Prejudice. The developers are asking for $100,000 to make the game. So far, with 751 backers, the campaign sits on $34,674 with 25 days to go.The setting of Ever, Jane will be Regency-era England. Instead of fighting with swords and guns, however, players will get to take part in the political intrigue the era was infamous for. The game will be heavy on roleplaying, since it involves building emergent stories. Quests will be derived from players' actions and stories, and most of the gameplay will involve Game of Thrones-esque diplomacy, lying and deceit.
If you want to try the game out before investing in the Kickstarter campaign, you can check out the prototype, which currently provides infrastructure for both the gossip and the invitation systems. It also has a 3D village where players can walk around, bowing and curtsying to people. It has a tutorial to walk players through the basic mechanics and UI. Sadly enough, since it's just a prototype, it doesn't have balls, dinner parties or minigames yet.The developers have also announced a bunch of stretch goals, which would involve adding new features to the game. For $150,000, the devs will be able to hire an additional artist for music and drawing. $200,000 will let them hire an additional programmer and will allow them to implement an Estate Planning mechanic. The stretch goals go on till $350,000, which will let the developers hire a Producer/Project Manager as well as add a player-based economy to the game.
