Activision ships $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts copies to retailers worldwide

Publisher Activision has announced that it has sold more than $1 billion worth of Call of Duty: Ghosts copies to retailers worldwide. What’s interesting is that historically, the company has showed off the number of games sold to players. This time, specifying that it sold that many copies to stores paints an entirely different picture. While it’s no secret that a game in the Call of Duty franchise is bound to sell a tonne of copies, there doesn’t seem to be as many copies of Ghosts sold yet. This could potentially be caused by the fact that many gamers are waiting to get their hands on next-gen consoles, thus not buying copies for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game.

Activision boss Bobby Kotick has pointed out, however, that 2013 has been great for the Call of Duty franchise, with players having clocked four billion hours of gameplay in Black Ops 2. Over the last year, Black Ops 2, including its digital content, has apparently generated more revenue than any other console game has in a single year.According to Microsoft, Ghosts has claimed the number one spot as the most-played game on Xbox Live. Activision has also revealed that the average player session for Ghosts on the Xbox 360 has been longer than either Black Ops 2 or Modern Warfare 3’s was in the same time period.Call of Duty: Ghosts is available on PC and current-gen consoles for Rs 3,899 and Rs 4,299 respectively. It will also be available on next-gen consoles from day one of the consoles' launches.
