Apple has yet to launch its iPad Mini with Retina Display, formerly known as the iPad Mini 2, and rumours are now suggesting that a delay caused by burn-in problems with the display are to blame.
Apple unveiled the new iPad Mini alongside the iPad Air at a launch event late last month, but while the iPad Air is now on sale the Retina iPad Mini was simply given a floating "some time in November" release window. Now, rumours have surfaced suggesting Apple is struggling with quality issues on the display that could see customers waiting even longer for their tablets.
Korean news site ETNews suggests that the IGZO (indium-gallium-zinc oxide) technology panels used by Sharp to produce Apple's screens are having trouble with image burn-in. Although reportedly minor, the flaw which could be affecting around 40 per cent of Apple's display supply, is enough for Apple to reject the displays.
That rejection could lead to a major delay for the tablet. With Sharp producing nearly half of the displays for the Retina-equipped iPad Air, a move to another supplier would likely push mass availability for the tablet to December at least.
Apple, as usual, has refused to comment on the claims, but equally has not denied the suggested display defects nor offered a firm launch date for the new iPad Mini with Retina Display.
