Watch LoveFilm on a 2010 Samsung TV? Amazon might send you a free Blu-ray player

expertreviews.co.uk-siena -

LoveFilm will discontinue support for its movie streaming service on certain Samsung Smart TVs later this month, but long-time users don't have to miss out - parent company Amazon will be sending out a free Blu-ray player as compensation.

As LoveFilm upgrades its smart TV apps to a more unified interface, which should make it easier for users to find something to watch. Star ratings, More Like This titles and the Watchlist will all make an appearance, but unfortunately older devices that can't be updated will be left by the wayside. That includes 2010 and older Samsung TVs, for which support will be discontinued on the 28th of October.

According to reports we've received from customers, Amazon is offering a free Samsung BD-F6500 Blu-ray player by way of compensation, which will run the updated app. An email with a redemption code, along with instructions on how to use it, should be arriving in the mailboxes of eligible customers soon. Further details can be found on the LoveFilm support page.

The LoveFilm representative we spoke to wasn't able to tell us exactly how many customers that might be, but based on the tips we've received you would have to have been using the service for at least several years in order to qualify.

We imagine the intended outcome of the offer is to keep LoveFilm customers happy, but it's worth keeping in mind that the BD-F6500 also supports Amazon's rival Netflix - we'd imagine that anyone already paying for instant on-demand TV and films wouldn't think twice about trying out the rival service, especially as the one month free trial is still available to new subscribers.
