Sony Xperia Z1 f 'Honami Mini' smartphone leaks

The first image of Sony's upcoming Honami Mini handset, expected to be officially called the Xperia Z1 f, has leaked along with a list of rumoured specifications for the device.

Designed to follow the trend of launching a three-pronged attack on the market with a flagship smartphone, followed by a smaller and cheaper edition and a larger 'phablet' device based around the same general design, the Xperia Z1 f is, as the name suggests, designed as an alternative to the company's flagship Xperia Z1. As with its larger sibling, the Xperia Z1 f is rumoured to be a high-end Android-based smartphone with some pretty unique features.

Externally, the handset takes the 144mm x 74mm dimensions of the Xperia Z1 and shaves them down to 127mm x 64.9mm, but gains a little thickness in the process at 9.4mm compared to 8.5mm. The 5in Full HD 1,920x1,080 screen also suffers, being swapped out for a 4.3in 1,280x720 panel. Internally, however, things look very similar: a quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor running at 2.2GHz, backed by 2GB of memory and a maximum of 16GB of internal storage.

The rear of the Xperia Z1 f is expected to include the same 20.7-megapixel Sony camera sensor, while the front will likely have a 2.2 megapixel unit. As with the rest of Sony's Xperia Z family, the Xperia Z1 f will include IP58 dust and water resistance for all-weather use.

The leaked images, retrieved from an NTT DoCoMo brochure obtained by Xperia Blog, show that Sony is continuing the style of the Xperia Z1 with only a few tweaks: the headphone port and a few of the buttons have moved to better suit the compact layout, while the camera flash has been moved to the side of the camera sensor. Two new colours are also teased: as well as black and white, the Xperia Z1 f will come in yellow and red, although there's no mention of a purple model to match the Xperia Z1.

Sony, for its part, has refused to comment on the claims, but with brochures printed and ready to go it would appear that the Xperia Z1 f is just around the corner.
