Punjab undertrial uploads videos of him beating inmates on Facebook fan page

Guess it isn’t that easy to give up Facebook after all. Punjab’s Kapurthala jail has come under fire after an under-trial managed to upload a video of him bashing up another inmate mercilessly on Facebook. Despite the fact that the video has now been deleted, the “fan page” on which it was uploaded is still alive and clocking in fans by the day.Sukha Kahlon, who is currently facing 40 criminal charges, including charges for murder, attempted murder, banditry, robbery and more in three states is currently jailed in Punjab. Despite this, Kahlon managed to have a video of him brutally beating up a fellow inmate shot.

The video, titled Jimmy alias Pita Kaand, was allegedly shot inside Kapurthala jail and uploaded last week. The video reportedly sees the fellow inmate, named Jimmy, begging for mercy but is instead made to abuse himself in Punjabi. Yet another video named “Rocky Kaand” was uploaded days before this one, showing another victim being beaten up using sticks. Kahlon’s fan page, named “Sukha Kahlon sharp shooter (sic)” has over 17,000 fans and was created only this year. The under-trial regularly manages to update his profile from within the jail, including uploading videos, changing profile pictures and more. Most of the images on his profile involve him glorifying violence by sporting weapons like guns and swords in them. Interestingly, there are some pictures of Kahlon being arrested that he’s used as profile picture on his fan page.

The Punjab police has already been facing pressure for being callous about the jail’s inmates gaining access to technology like mobile devices behind the bars and this has only added to its woes. Not just Kahlon, reports the Daily Mail, but several other inmates inside the jail have access to social networking websites like Facebook. What’s most surprising about this story coming out of Punjab’s jails is the fact that most of these inmates have a fan page on Facebook that sees them having quite a following amongst the local youth. Kapurthala’s Deputy Superintendent of Police Balwinder Singh told the Hindustan Times that he was not aware of the incident but will be probing him on a production warrant soon. Currently, Kahlon has been shifted to another prison after he beat up the jail warden. Meanwhile, the updates keep coming on Kahlon’s Facebook fan page nevertheless.
