Olympus announces new flagship compact Stylus 1 for Rs 44,990

Olympus has launched its flagship compact, the Stylus 1 globally. This will now be the Olympus compact flagship camera. The Stylus 1 boasts of an f/2.8 constant aperture throughout the 28-300mm i.Zuiko digital lens with 10.7x zoom for wide to telephoto shots and defocused backgrounds.The large diameter lens incorporates built-in VCM image stabilisation mechanism to rid images of camera shake and blur. The lens retracts fully into the camera body – behind a removable automatic lens cap – when it isn’t in use.

At the camera’s heart is a 12-megapixel 1/1.7-inch BSI CMOS sensor and TruePic VI image processor as well as a built-in electronic viewfinder (EVF) from the Olympus OM-D E M5. The Stylus 1 also inherits the Fast Touch AF system from the Olympus PEN series for precision focusing using the tiltable LCD touchscreen monitor. The EVF on the Stylus 1 has a 1.44 million dot resolution and a 1.15x viewfinder magnification rate, equivalent to 0.58x of 35mm film cameras, and 100 percent field of view. The eye sensor on the camera automatically switches to the live view display from the 3-inch, 1.04 million dot resolution LCD touchscreen to the EVF instantly. A hybrid control ring, quite like the one found on the Olympus Stylus XZ-2 iHS, is also a part of the new flagship, is built around the lens. In the digital mode, the ring turns in a smooth fashion for zooming and manual focusing and in analog mode, users can adjust settings such as aperture, shutter speed and more. The camera also comes with a hot-shoe for accessories, built-in flash, a side zoom lever with variable speeds and two customisable function buttons for easy access to commonly used settings.

The Stylus 1 comes with built-in Wi-Fi that can be set up simply by scanning the QR code displayed on the camera’s LCD. There’s also the Olympus Image share 2.1 Smartphone app that can be used too turn the phone into the display and remotely adjust settings. GPS information can also be embedded within images using smartphones. Additionally, you can also shoot 1080p Full HD movies using stereo sound and 120fps/240fps recording to capture movies.Users can also capture RAW image data for post-processing flexibility as well as create motion blur effects minus overexposing thanks to a built-in ND filter, with 3 EV stops and capture up to 7fps in full resolution. The Olympus Stylus 1 is priced at Rs 44,990 and will be available in India by the end of November.
