Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has been crowned most popular game ever by Amazon UK, which is celebrating its fifteenth birthday by revealing its most popular products.
The Call of Duty franchise was found to "clearly dominate" the video games chart, taking the top three spots in the all-time game sales. However, Grand Theft Auto 5 is quickly catching up, having been named the fastest selling video game of all time and reaching the fourth place slot in only a few weeks since launch.
EA’s FIFA football series is the other big franchise, taking the sixth, seventh and eighth places. Fantasy epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim takes ninth place, and Wii title Zumba Fitness takes the number ten spot, which is surprising considering it is the only title in the list which is not multiplatform.
“Call of Duty, Grand Theft Auto and FIFA are three of the largest entertainment franchises in the world, so it’s no surprise to see them dominating the top ten best-selling games chart,” said Ketu Patel, video games & software category leader at Amazon.co.uk.
“The success of Skyrim suggests that there is a real appetite for epic fantasy games, whilst Zumba Fitness’s appearance in tenth place shows just how big Nintendo Wii’s fanbase is in the UK”.
The overall fastest selling product was the book Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, while the fastest selling album of all time was One Direction – Midnight Memories.
Harry Potter also claimed the prize for fastest selling DVD of all time with the Deathly Hallows Part 2.
