1. Before You Begin:

  3. Download Sony Xperia Z Ultra USB driver for Windows and install in your computer.
  4. Skip this step if you have installed the Sony Companion.
  5. Enable USB Debugging on your device.
  6. Make sure your phone is charged to 60% 80% to avoid battery blackout and interruption during this tutorial.
  7. We recommend you make a backup on your data and media files before the tutorial.

2. Download Required Files:

  1. Kernel For Sony Xperia Z Ultra
  2. Fastboot+ADB(20926)

3. How To Install CWM Or TWRP Custom Recovery On Sony Xperia Z Ultra

  1. Unlock Bootloader of your device first.
  2. Download & Extract the Fastboot folder from the Fastboot+ADB zip file at your desktop.
  3. Download the Kernel file (adv-stock-v4.img) and copy it to the Fastboot>Win32 folder.
  4. Turn Off your device completely.
  5. Enter into fastboot mode by connecting your device to PC with USB cable while pressing Volume Up button.
  6. Now open the Folder Fastboot>Win32 and Press & Hold Shift key and press right click of mouse and select open command window here.
  7. CMD window will appear on the desktop.
  8. Type fastboot flash boot adv-stock-v4.img to flash the kernel in your device.
  9. After the process complete turn off your device (Press & Hold Power Button)

  4. Once you have completed the setup, copy adb.exe, AdbWinApi.dll from C:\\android-sdk-windows\platform-tools and fastboot.exe in C:\\android-sdk-windows\tools to a new folder at the desktop, renamed it as fastboot.
  5. Download kernel_en.elf to the fastboot folder. Rename kernel_en.elf to kernel.elf. 
  6. Power off your device completely.
  7. Enter Fastboot Mode by connecting your device to the computer via micro USB cable while pressing Volume Up button.
  8. In computer, open Command Prompt windows. (To Open Command Prompt –>Windows Logo–> Type CMD in search box –>Enter)
  9. Type cd C:\fastboot in the command prompt windows to navigate to your fastboot folder.
  10. Type fastboot flash boot kernel.elf to flash the kernel file to your device.
  11. Press and hold Power button to turn off your device.
  12. Your device is now installed with ClockWorkMod recovery. We recommend to perform NANDROID backup with CWM.

  1. Download and extract Odin3.07.zip in a folder in computer.
  2. Download CWM Recovery/TWRP Recovery in computerfrom above.
  3. Power off your device.
  4. Enter Download Mode by pressing and hold the Volume Down key, Home button, and Power button.
  5. You should see a warning triangle sign, press Volume Up to continue.
  6. You should see Odin Mode at the top and Downloading… , Do not turn off target!!
  7. Launch Odin executable file by double-clicking on Odin3 v3.07 exe.
  8. Connect your device to your computer with USB cable.
  9. Wait until Odin to show an “Added” message at the lower-left message box.
  10. After your device is detected by Odin, click on the PDA button and select the *.tar or *.tar.md5 (Downloaded Recovery file).
  11. Make sure the Repartition option is not checked under Options checked on Auto Reboot.
  12. Click Start button to flash *.tar or *.tar.md5 to your device. Monitor the flash progress on Odin.
  13. A green “PASS” message should show for a success flashing.
  14. Your device shall reboot automatically.
  15. To test if CWm Recovery or TWRP recovery is installed successfully, power off your device. Press and hold Volume Up key, Home button, and Power button. Your device should in the CWM recovery/TWRP recovery mode.
  16. If you fail to enter in CWM recovery/TWRP recovery mode or bootloop, try to flash back to stock recovery. Follow the Step 3 – Step 14 with Stock Recovery.

7. Type in following command into the app to gain root-access:
su
8. Now issue the following command to flash the recovery:
dd if=/sdcard/part_13_cwm_9_22_17_32.bin of=/dev/block/mmcblk0p14
9. Close the Terminal Emulator app on your device.
10. Head over to Google Play and download and install the ES File Explorer app on your device.
11. Open the File Explorer from your App Drawer.
12. Head to /system/etc/ directory and rename the install-recovery.sh file to install-recovery.sh.bak.
13. Close the app.
14. You’re done!

1. You must have rooted your device before doing this procedure. Please head to our How to Root the Huawei Honor 2 procedure first, finish it, then return to this procedure and continue.

III. Flashing a Custom Recovery on the Huawei Honor 2:

1. Place the Recovery executable file on your Desktop.
2. Turn OFF your device.
3. Turn it back on by holding down Volume DOWN+Power buttons together.
4. Plug in your device to your PC via USB cable.
5. Double-click on the Recovery executable file and it’ll launch.
6. Type in 1 and hit Enter.
7. It’ll flash the recovery on your device, should take a couple of minutes to finish.
8. Once the recovery’s been flashed, reboot your device.
9. You’re done!
Brilliant! Your device has been successfully equipped with a custom recovery. Now go ahead and flash whatever you want on your device!
