Ever since Sachin Tendulkar announced his retirement from Tests, the country's cricket fans have only been talking in Tendulkar terms. Now, even WeChat has jumped on the bandwagon. In a move to take advantage of this craze WeChat has released a Master Blaster sticker pack for its users. Even though the stickers are obviously modeled after Tendulkar, the app never mentions the man by name. But the No 10 shirt and the curly mop of hair leave no doubt as to who the cricketer is. The stickers show the master blaster striking a pose while batting, fielding, cheering when he reaches a century and more. The sticker pack is available for free on WeChat already.
Aila! Sticker!
The Tencent-owned company says that it ensures localised content such as stickers and games for its Indian users on festive or special occasions. We can be sure of a few more festive-themed stickers from WeChat as Christmas and New Year's Eve rolls around.
Facebook is another company that has jumped on to the localised sticker bandwagon, even if it’s a bit later than most cross-platform messaging apps. The social networking website released a pack of Chumbak stickers, in true desi style, late last month. These stickers were made in association with Chumbak designs, a Bangalore based company and featured some Indianised catch phrases like “Mad or What?” “Fully fed up,” “Shame, shame puppy shame,” and more. Besides this, Facebook also tied up with Hungama to put up Krrish 3 based stickers on its store.
