Last week Amazon announced its one-day delivery service, and now Flipkart has followed suit with its own next-day delivery service for select Indian cities.
Flipkart calls it the ‘In-a-day Guarantee’ service and now users can place their orders before 6 pm on a day and get the delivery the next working day, by paying an additional sum of Rs 90 per product. Just like Amazon, Flipkart’s delivery service is only available for customers in select cities with the initiative starting in Delhi, Noida, Mumbai, Chennai, Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad. However, the e-commerce site plans to extend to other cities soon.

Speaking about the delivery system, Ravi Vora, Senior VP - Marketing, Flipkart said, “We have now built the capability into our supply-chain and can now offer it as a guaranteed feature.” Flipkart's move comes less than a week after Amazon announced a similar shipping service which charges a premium of Rs 99 per product. Flipkart has undercut Amazon in terms of price.
But Amazon also has an ongoing pilot project with India Post. The e-tailer is reportedly testing collecting payments from receipts using India Post, as well as implementing a cash-on-delivery (COD) method through the national postal service. With Amazon trying to each to the deepest parts of the country, we think its time other Indian e-commerce sites pull up their socks. Flipkart could just be the first of the Indian brigade to introduce changes in their delivery system.
