Creative Sound Blaster headsets ready for the PS4

Creative has confirmed that its latest Sound Blaster headsets are fully compatible with Sony's newly-launched PS4 console, with no need to buy additional adaptors even with the top-end wireless models.

Unlike the Xbox One, which won't officially support third-party headsets until an adaptor for the new proprietary headset port on the controller launches next year, the PS4 has a standard 3.5mm audio jack built into its DualShock 4 pad. That means any regular wired headphones will work perfectly for game audio, but it's not so black and white for headsets with microphones and USB or wireless headsets.

A day one firmware update added support for many existing PS3 headsets, and Creative has now confirmed that its Sound Blaster EVO wireless Series and Sound Blaster Tactic3D USB headsets both play nicely with the new console.

The Sound Blaster EVO uses Bluetooth wireless audio, meaning you can pair it with a smartphone, tablet or other Bluetooth-equipped device for music playback. It also has integrated NFC, so pairing a device just takes a tap. The £250 EVO ZxR uses 50mm drivers and active noise cancellation to deliver the "full audible range of the audio spectrum" - at least according to Creative, anyway.

The slightly less expensive EVO ZX uses smaller 40mm drivers and ditches active noise cancellation, but keeps Bluetooth and NFC for £199.

All of Creative's PS4-compatible headsets are available directly from Creative's UK store, although we found online retailers asking up to £50 less after a quick search, so it's worth shopping around if you're thinking of picking one up.
