So after we did a post on some more details about the CEDIA training happening in Mumbai, India from the 9th – 12th December 2013, we learnt that there are some training sessions that are exclusive to a CEDIA member. Also for all the courses there is a hefty discount for CEDIA members as compared to the fees for non-members. So the most obvious question that was to follow is how exactly does one become a member of the CEDIA and also are there any special requirements for the membership? What are the different ways in which you can associate with CEDIA (different types of memberships)?
We have a number of different categories to ensure that we offer a suitable membership for anyone who is involved in the custom installation industry. I have listed the details below.
• Home Technology Professional Membership - Designers and/or Installers of custom electronic systems
• Trade Supplier Membership - Manufacturers and Distributors of custom installation equipment
• Professional Services Membership - Individuals or business entities whose endeavours touch on the field of custom electronic design and installation but do not engage in selling products for resale e.g. programmers and consultants
• Affiliate Membership - Any individual or entity whose endeavours touch on the field of custom installation. Generally recommended to media companies within the industry
• Student Membership - Students in full time education or post graduates
• Sales Representative Membership - Any individual or entity who sells the services of the field of custom installation
What are the charges for the different membership types?
The membership prices are as follows -
• Home Technology Professional Membership – 35,353.50 INR
• Trade Supplier Membership – 70,707 INR
• Professional Services Membership – 35,353.50 INR
• Affiliate Membership – 35,353.50 INR
• Student Membership – 2,525.25 INR
• Sales Representative Membership – 35,353.50 INR
Are there any offers for prospectives who would want to become members before the scheduled training in December 2013 for India?

Any company who joins as a Home Technology Professional before 4thDecember 2013 will get CEDIA Membership and access to five training courses for only 55,000 INR. The courses include CEDIA Certified Outreach Instructor, Home Cinema Design Workshop, Residential Networking, Art of Project Documentation and Certification Light.
What is the duration of the membership?
CEDIA membership is valid for one year. The deadline for renewals is the 31st January every year. We are currently encouraging our members to start thinking about renewals. Within the past year, we have seen 163 new companies sign up to be members. This brings total membership to 573. We have 20 members in India, including Sound Decisions Consultancy & Services, who joined CEDIA in 2008 and were recognised for their work in the following year, by winning the Best Home Cinema Installation from £40,000 - £100,000 category at the CEDIA Awards. Another longstanding member in India is AVXellence, who joined in 2009.
Are there any credentials that one should have to become a CEDIA member?
We do have requirements for each membership category. CEDIA aims to improve the standards within the custom installation industry. As such, we ask for a number of documents, including references and trading history, to ensure that the companies who become members reflect the aim of the association. Full details are listed below.
Home Technology Professional Membership
•A trading history of at least twelve months.
•References from three Trade Suppliers including one who is a CEDIA member to verify that the referee is doing business with you and that you are engaged in the custom installation business.
•Photocopies of Public Liability insurance (mandatory) & Professional Indemnity insurance (recommended) or equivalent if based outside of the UK.
Trade Supplier Membership
•A trading history of at least six months
•Manufacturer or Distributor of products for the residential custom installation market
•References from three Home Technology Professionals including one who is a CEDIA member to verify that the referee is doing business with you and that you are engaged in the custom installation business.
Professional Services Membership
•The individual or business must be involved in the field of custom electronic design and installation
•A trading history of at least six months
•References from three Home Technology Professionals including one who is a CEDIA member to verify that the referee is doing business with you and that you are engaged in the custom installation business.
Affiliate Membership
•The individual or business must be involved in the field of custom electronic design and installation
•Affiliate members cannot be involved in the specification or design of systems or installations.
•A trading history of at least six months
•Reference from one business, preferable a CEDIA member, to verify that the referee is doing business with you.
Sales Representative Membership
•The individual or business must be involved in the field of custom electronic design and installation
•A trading history of at least six months
•References from one who is a CEDIA member to verify that the referee is doing business with you and that you are engaged in the custom installation business.
Student Membership
•The individual must be over 17 and in full time education or a post graduate who has graduated in the last 12 months.
