BlackBerry had teamed up with Porsche Design to produce the "elite" Porsche Design P’9982 smartphone, along with a second Crocodile model limited to a production run of just 500 devices worldwide.
The P’9982 is made from stainless steel, with a hand-wrapped Italian leather rear cover. The back of the limited edition model will be covered in crocodile leather. On the inside it's essentially a BlackBerry Z10, which is slightly baffling seeing as the newer Z30 is a more powerful device.
Distinguishable by its special series of PIN numbers, owners of the P’9982 will be "instantly recognisable in the world of Porsche Design smartphone owners", according to BlackBerry.
Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group said that the collaboration with BlackBerry has led to a device "without compromises".
The new P’9982 smartphone comes with a customised version of the BlackBerry 10.2 OS. Buyers will also receive a "premium" stereo headset. The P’9982 will be available with "exclusive" after-market accessories including hand-crafted rear covers made from Italian leather, which will be available in three colours.
The Porsche Design P’9982 will be available from Porsche Design stores, select carriers and retailers around the world beginning on November 21 with the exclusive retail launch at Harrods, Knightsbridge, London.
The limited Crocodile edition will be beginning early December, and will be exclusive to the Porsche Design shop-in-shop at Harrods.
