BlackBerry's Porsche Design P'9982 is a redesigned Z10 with a $2,400 price tag

Back in August, there were reports that suggested that BlackBerry was working on a Porsche Design version of the Z10. However everything from the specs till the price was still unconfirmed. Not any more. BlackBerry has now officially introduced the P’9982, a Porsche Design edition of the Z10 with a sky-high price tag of $2,400 (Rs 1,49,990 approx). While we don't expect demand for this phone to be through the roof, it will nevertheless be a limited edition device, with only 500 units being sold worldwide. The original Z10, when it was launched in India, came with a hefty price tag of Rs 43,490, but was later reduced to Rs 29,990 by the company. So what do you get for all the extra cash you will be shelling out for the Porsche Design version?

In an official un-boxing video, the company shows that "luxury" starts from the moment you open the box. Packaged in a case that is much bigger than most standard smartphones, users get to choose from among four charger options for their phone. Also part of the deal is a Porsche Design pair of headphones with tangle-free cables and a cloth to keep the phone shiny. Users will get an individual PIN for their handset to show that they have picked up an exclusive smartphone. Check out the hands-on video to get a good look at the device:

The device itself comes with a satin-finish stainless steel frame as well as hand-wrapped backs made from genuine Italian leather. And if that wasn't overkill, BlackBerry even has plans to get out an even more limited version of the smartphone with genuine crocodile leather instead. The software of the P’9982 is BlackBerry 10.2 with some modifications on top, including rectangular app icons and a new watch face. Users can also pick up an optional leather carrying case and handcrafted customised backs made of leather. The only catch for the last two accessories is that you will have to shell out even more money, and there is no mention on the official blog on how much these will cost, but we reckon they won't come cheap. The handset will be available from Porsche Design stores as well as select carriers and retailers around the world beginning November 21. The exclusive retail launch of the exclusive device will be at the Harrods in London's Knightsbridge. It will also be available from Carphone Warehouse and Selfridges. The even more limited crocodile leather edition will be available in early December and can only be picked up from Porsche Design at Harrods.

There is no mention whether the device will be seen in the Indian market, but we don't expect a special launch for the phone only for India. Overall, the changes to the new phone are purely design-based, with only minor changes being made to the software and no mention of any tweaks to the hardware.
