Retailers are warning customers that they might not receive their Xbox One Day One Edition consoles for launch day - something of a cruel irony given the name of the bundle.
The Day One Edition, which was announced alongside the regular console, is a special bundle pack available in limited numbers to pre-order customers. The Xbox One console and its Kinect depth-sensing camera remain the same as in the standard edition, but Day One Edition customers will receive a commemorative controller, an exclusive Xbox Live achievement, and in Europe a free game.
However, anyone with a pre-order for the special edition of Microsoft's latest console should be wary that they may not receive it on launch day. US chain Best Buy, speaking to Gotta Be Mobile, said that it has "no control over the number of units the manufacturer would provide on its release day," and "should it occur that stocks would run out, the last customer on the waiting list will become the first customer in line for the shipment of the next batch of Xbox One: Day One Edition [consoles]".
The experience at other retail stores seems similar. Pre-orders of the Day One Edition may exceed the number of units Microsoft is shipping for release day, leaving some customers waiting into December to receive their delayed units.
The Xbox One is due to launch on the 22nd of November, one week ahead of Sony's rival PlayStation 4.
