Nikon has upgraded its D600 enthusiast full-frame digital SLR with faster and quieter burst modes. The new D610 retains the same 24.3-megapixel FX-format CMOS sensor and EXPEED 3 image processor as its predecessor, but increases burst mode shooting to six frames per second.
Wildlife photographers will appreciate the new Quiet Release burst mode, which reduces the sound of the mirror mechanism while shooting at up to three frames per second.
A 100-6400 ISO range, extendable to 50-25,600 (equivalent), 39-point auto focus system and 3.12in, 921dot rear display complete the headline features, with battery life expected to last either 900 shots or 60 minutes of video capture. There's still no integrated Wi-Fi, but the D610 is compatible with Nikon's optional WU-1b Mobile Adapter.
Like the D600 it can record 1080p video at 24p, 25p or 30p, along with 720p video at 50p or 60p. You can also output live uncompressed 1080p video over HDMI.
A range of creative filters and pre-sets built into the camera allow for time-lapse shooting without a remote trigger, HDR shooting, 19 scene modes and in-camera editing with sharpness, saturation and hue controls tied to a dedicated button.
The D610 will go on sale in the UK from the 18th of October, with prices starting from £1,799.99 for the body alone or £2,299.99 with a 24-85mm kit lens.
