Microsoft shipped only 1.2 million Xbox 360 units last quarter

In its earnings report for the quarter that ended on September 30, Microsoft has revealed, among other things, sales figures and overall revenue related to the Xbox 360. Overall, the company has revealed that the quarter ended with a revenue of $18.53 billion. Interestingly, however, the Xbox 360’s sales have been quite low this quarter, with 1.2 million units being shipped. This is a 29 percent decrease compared to last year. This doesn’t come as much of a surprise since the Xbox One is looming over all of our heads.

Microsoft is being more welcoming to smaller developers with this move

Xbox sales are dwindling

Devices overall still managed to get Microsoft quite a profit, despite the Xbox 360’s low sales, because of the Surface line-up of tablets which managed to get $400 million in revenue. The Devices and Consumer Other segment also turned up quite a profit. This segment includes first-party games like Halo 4 and Xbox Live. The profits from this segmented resulted in $1.64 billion in revenue. Transactions on Xbox Live were up by 25 percent, but other services also managed to make money, including Bing and Office 365 Home Premium. With the imminent launch of the Xbox One, Microsoft’s profits for the next quarter are expected to be much higher, especially owing to the large number of pre-orders for the console. It will be hitting stores in 14 countries at first in November. Other countries all over the world will get the console eventually, with India expecting to get it some time in 2014.
