Lenovo unveils 8-inch Miix 2 Windows 8.1 tablet

Lenovo has pulled the covers off its new Windows 8.1-based Miix 2 tablet. Lenovo decided to go small with the Miix 2 which comes with an 8-inch display compared to its 10-inch predecessor. It has been crafted with a sleek profile measuring 5.18 x 8.48 x .32 inches, and weighing 349 grams.

The Miix 2 slate gets the newest Bay Trail Atom technology. It is powered by an Intel Bay Trail-T quad-core processor with 2GB LP-DDR3 RAM, and runs on proper Windows 8.1. The multitouch 8-inch display has a 178-degree wide viewing angle and 16:10 aspect ratio.

There's a 5-megapixel camera on the back along with a 2-megapixel shooter on the front face for Skype calls. Lenovo will be selling the tablet in two storage configurations - 32GB and 64GB.

Unlike some of Lenovo's PCs, this tablet looks rather plain. There's a shiny trim running around the edge and there's considerable bezel. The tablet will come with a soft-touch cover with a stylus, which will be available for $20 (approx Rs 1,200). The cover folds around the back to form a kickstand.

Take a quick look at its specifications:

  • 8-inch HD display with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution

  • 3G, Wi-Fi

  • Bluetooth v4.0

  • 5 megapixel rear camera, 2 megapixel front-facing camera

  • 32 GB and 64GB on-board storage

The Miix 2 promises a battery life of 7 hours, which isn’t really exceptional. The tablet also includes Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013. The 32GB Lenovo Miix 2 is priced at $299 (approx Rs 18,300) while the 64GB model costs $349 (approx Rs 21,300).
