Microsoft's upcoming Xbox One console may not support third-party headsets at launch, with at least one manufacturer stating that its gaming headsets won't be available for the device until early 2014.
Microsoft's next-generation Xbox One console features a revamped controller which changes, among other things, the connection for the headset. As a result, existing headsets designed for the Xbox 360 won't work with the Xbox One - but Microsoft has promised to remedy that by releasing an adapter which will sit in-between the controller and the headset to allow gamers to make use of their existing headsets.
Gaming audio specialist Turtle Beach has indicated, however, that the same adapter may be needed by all third-party headsets and not just those designed for the Xbox 360 - and that it will not be available until early 2014.
Speaking to CVG, the company clarified that its XO Four and XO Seven Xbox One gaming headsets will require the Xbox One Headset Adapter, built by Microsoft and required for all third-party headsets used with the console. The company has also confirmed that the delay to its headset launches is directly due to being forced to wait for the adapter to be manufactured by Microsoft.
Microsoft has not commented on the company's claims, and has so far not provided an official date for the launch of the adapter. The Xbox One itself is due to launch on the 22nd of November.
