Adidas is all set to take on rival Nike, and tech companies like Sony and Samsung. The company has unveiled its own smartwatch, dubbed the miCoach Smart Run. The smartwatch will be available in stores on November 1. It allows runners to track their performance using GPS mapping and biometric data. It also has some added features such as the ability to listen to music and real-time coaching. The Smart Run, according to Adidas, uses optical technology to track user's heart rate from their wrist. It has a built-in accelerometer which counts every step. There's a 1.45-inch colour display, which displays stuff like the current track playing, the heart rate and other fitness-related data. This one can be paired up to wireless headsets using Bluetooth. What sets the Smart Run apart form other smartwatches, however, is the fact that it can act as a standalone device, not requiring tethering to any smartphone or tablet.

"By combining the latest innovations, such as the Mio Wrist Based Continuous Heart Rate Technology, design and ease of use navigation, we consciously broke the template that defines other running watches," said Simon Drabble, Director of miCoach at Adidas. "As part of the miCoach training system, it truly unlocks human potential by making smart training easy and accessible. Whether you're starting a new running program, training for a 10k or competing in another marathon, miCoach SMART RUN will make your training more efficient so you get the results you want."The Smart Run has support for interval training, using miCoach’s concept of four coloured zones—blue, green, yellow and red. Adidas claims that the smartwatch uses these zones to coach users throughout their workouts. Using its built-in coaching system, the watch can tell users to either speed up or slow down their workout through wireless headsets. The miCoach Smart Run smartwatch will cost $399, which roughly translates to Rs 24,450, on the official Adidas website.
